Rajesh Rai is an experienced venture investor and company builder. He is currently with Montane Ventures and is also a Venture Partner with Virginia Venture Partners. Rajesh heads up TiE DC Angels.

Rajesh has been an investor in category-leading companies such as Hybrent, Remidio, Sedemac, Simplilearn, GeoIQ, and Consure. He has been part of numerous exits that have generated top tier returns for investors. He has served as CEO of India Innovation Fund and led a profitable full portfolio exit for fund investors. From 2002-2010, Rajesh was a Co-Founder and Partner at New Markets Venture Partners, a leading venture fund in the Washington DC area. He has worked across the life cycle of fund raising, investing, building companies and exiting investments.

Prior to co-founding NMVP in 2002, Rajesh worked in several operational roles. He has been an angel investor/advisor with several high-growth companies including Simplilearn, Arctern (Acquired by Volt), CertusNet, Skillenza.

Rajesh has taught Graduate level and Executive MBA courses at the University of Maryland. He currently serves on the Board of TiE DC and as Chair of TiE DC Angels. Rajesh has an MBA from University of Maryland, B.E from NIT, Suratkal and has completed the Private Equity and Venture Capital Executive Program at Harvard Business School. Rajesh is married with two children.
